Donald Trump has released footage showing the moment a suspected gunman stormed towards the ballroom hosting the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The incident unfolded at around 8.50pm as roughly 2,600 guests gathered at the Washington Hilton. The suspect allegedly opened fire at a Secret Service agent as he attempted to breach security at the entrance. According to the FBI, between seven and eight shots were fired - though it remains unclear how many were discharged by the suspect or by law enforcement. The agent was struck in the chest but was wearing a bulletproof vest and is not believed to have suffered serious injuries. In a press conference following the incident, Mr Trump said the suspect was armed with multiple weapons, including a shotgun, a handgun and several knives. Law enforcement officers tackled the man to the ground and took him into custody, with two officials telling NBC News he is now being treated for injuries. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Cole Allen from California, is believed to have acted alone, according to the President. Mr Trump added that searches are ongoing at the suspect’s apartment in his home state. WATCH THE CLIP ABOVE FOR MORE
