PNP steps up crackdown on illegal cigarette trade after P799 M Negros bust

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police (PNP) is intensifying intelligence operations against illegal cigarette manufacturing after several facilities were raided recently in Negros island, which led to the discovery of almost P800 million worth of materials and equipment. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. visited the Negros Island Region (NIR) on April 24 with Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, where they were briefed on recent law enforcement operations in Negros Occidental that uncovered illegal cigarette manufacturing activities.
