'Situation is under control' - Mali govt confirms armed forces repelled coordinated 'terrorist groups' attacks across cities

"Malian government spokesperson General Issa Ousmane Coulibaly said a series of 'complex and coordinated' terrorist attacks hit several strategic cities across the country on Saturday morning, leaving 16 people injured. Footage shows security forces patrolling the streets, with an increased military presence in the capital and surrounding areas to prevent further escalation. "Armed terrorist groups carried out complex and coordinated attacks targeting certain cities in the country, notably the garrison towns of Kati, Sevare, Gao, Kidal, and Bamako. These terrorist attacks have unfortunately left sixteen wounded, including civilians and military personnel," Coulibaly said in a televised statement. The spokesperson added that the situation was now 'fully under control' in the affected areas, with reinforced security deployments and patrols continuing. According to reports, the al-Qaeda-linked group Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin claimed responsibility for the attacks, including strikes on Bamako's international airport and other locations, reportedly carried out alongside the Azawad Liberation Front. The government condemned the attacks as 'cowardly terrorist acts' and vowed to pursue those responsible, urging citizens to remain vigilant and rely on official sources for information. Authorities have not released a death toll in one of the largest coordinated attacks in Mali in recent years. Mali has faced years of instability driven by jihadist insurgencies and separatist movements, with violence regularly targeting both military positions and civilian areas despite ongoing security operations."
