Too hot to handle! - Extreme heat turns Taj Mahal visit into test of endurance for tourists

"India is grappling with a severe heatwave as temperatures have soared past 42 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The relentless rise in temperature has made the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra a challenging destination for tourists, who must endure the intense heat. Footage captured on Saturday shows tourists wearing hats and sunglasses, walking on the streets with umbrellas, and covering their faces to protect themselves from the heat. Other visitors are seen taking pictures in front of the Taj Mahal, while many seek shade under trees. "It's very beautiful to see. Because of the heat, we couldn't enjoy it much. I couldn't see it properly. When I go inside, my feet get burnt due to the heat," tourist Rangaswamy remarked. "The government and the administration should take care of the water supply. There is no water facility around the main cemetery. If someone is thirsty, there is nothing nearby to quench their thirst. Whatever is available is outside, and it's very far away," another tourist, Usman, added. Ganesh Kumar, a souvenir shop owner outside the Taj Mahal, expressed concern, saying that due to the challenges in tourism, they are worried about how to run their households as income has declined. "Due to the war between Israel and Iran, there aren't many tourists here. Foreign tourist numbers have also decreased," he continued. Authorities and health officials are urging visitors to take extra precautions while exploring the Taj Mahal. The extreme heat has already impacted visitor turnout, which typically reaches up to 30,000 people per day during peak season."
