"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Christian soldiers in the IDF on Sunday, highlighting their vital role in national security and emphasising what he describes as the continued growth and success of their community within the country. "They fill all the important positions in our incredible military, and they do incredible work. This is completely contrary to what is presented outside," stated Netanyahu. "Israel is the one country in the Middle East where the Christian community is thriving, is growing, it's expanding, and it's very, very successful with incredible men and women," he added. The statement comes days after a viral video showing an IDF soldier smashing a statue of Jesus Christ with a sledgehammer in southern Lebanon, caused widespread condemnation and forced the government to defend its record on religious tolerance and safety of the region's Christian population. The Israeli military subsequently launched a criminal probe into the incident. It was later reported that the two soldiers involved had been removed from combat duty and would receive 30 days of military detention."
