MANILA, Philippines – Lawmakers on Monday downplayed the complaint filed by lawyer Manases Carpio over the alleged violation of bank secrecy laws during impeachment hearings against his wife, Vice President Sara Duterte, saying such proceedings are exempted from these restrictions. In an online interview, Mamamayang Liberal (ML) party-list Rep. Leila de Lima said she is confident the complaint will be dismissed because aside from the exception provided under Republic Act No. 1405 or the Bank Secrecy Law regarding impeachment proceedings, bank records were not discussed during the April 22 hearing of the House committee on justice.
