Watch the moment police officer cheats death after car bomb explodes just metres from him

Police have released footage showing the moment an officer cheated death after a car bomb exploded just metres from him. The video, released by the Police in Northern Ireland, shows an officer walking towards a white car before a loud bang is heard and a vehicle bursts into flames. The officer turned and escaped the scene, appearing unharmed. Police in Northern Ireland have launched an attempted murder investigation following the bomb attack in Dunmurry on Saturday evening , marking the second such incident in less than four weeks. TRENDING Stories Videos Your Say The explosion occurred in Dunmurry, southwest of Belfast, outside a police station late on Saturday night, with reports of a loud band at around 11.30pm. The PSNI's Terrorist Investigation Unit is leading the inquiry into what officers have described as a "deliberate, reckless and stupid attack" that put numerous lives at risk. Senior police officials condemned the bombing, with Chief Constable Jon Boutcher saying it would "achieve absolutely nothing but unify condemnation by everyone, and the arrest and prosecution of those responsible". The investigation remains in its early stages, though authorities have vowed the attack will not deter the force from protecting communities across Northern Ireland. Those responsible for the attack allegedly forced an innocent delivery driver to transport an explosive device, which was then placed in a residential neighbourhood. Police footage released yesterday shows officers putting themselves directly in danger as they rushed to evacuate homes while the bomb exploded. Among those rescued from the area were two young babies, who were brought to the safety of a police station by officers who entered residents' homes during the unfolding emergency. The Chief Constable emphasised that the perpetrators showed "complete disregard" for human life by targeting a populated area, describing their actions as demonstrating utter recklessness. He said: "This was not just an attack aimed at our incredible police officers and staff, this was an attack against everybody in society." Officers paid tribute to colleagues who responded to the incident, acknowledging their exceptional bravery and professionalism in confronting the threat. Chief Constable Boutcher said: "I want to acknowledge, especially the courage and professionalism of those officers, who responded so quickly and so professionally, to this cowardly attack, and undoubtedly saved lives." The police official described the responding officers as having "rushed towards danger" to protect local residents. First Minister Michelle O'Neill and Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly joined police and the Chair of the Northern Ireland Policing Board, Brendan Mullan, in publicly denouncing the bombing. The PSNI stressed that calling out such reckless violence is a collective responsibility shared by all members of society. Authorities issued an urgent plea for anyone with information about those involved to come forward immediately. Chief Constable Boutcher added: "Please contact us if you know somebody. "Even if you think you might know who is responsible, please reach out to the PSNI, before they actually do kill somebody." Officers pledged to do everything possible to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter
