'This was attempted assassination of POTUS!' - DOJ on 'threat environment', says 'political violence, rhetoric' must stop

"US Attorney for Washington, DC, Jeanine Pirro said on Monday that additional charges are expected against Cole Allen, the suspect in the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner shooting on Saturday. Pirro said the incident was an assassination attempt against President Donald Trump's life, claiming that the suspect intended to "bring down as many of the high-ranking cabinet officials as he could." "There will be additional charges as this investigation continues to unfold," Pirro said. "But make no mistake, this was an attempted assassination of the President of the United States, with the defendant making clear what his intent was. And that intent was to bring down as many of the high-ranking cabinet officials as he could." “Cole Allen's journey of accountability in the criminal justice system starts today," she added. Meanwhile, acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche described the 'threat environment' in the US. "Political violence and rhetoric has got to stop. And that's something President Trump said right after the incident on Saturday night," he noted. FBI Director Kash Patel meanwhile praised the actions by forces on hand, which included the Secret Service, Homeland Security, FBI and Met police. "They stood in the way. They safeguarded America, and they should be nothing but applauded for their bravery and their dedication to their mission and their selfless sacrifice to this country,” he declared. The 31-year-old teacher from California, Cole Allen, was produced in the court today. He has been indicted on three counts: attempted assassination of the president of the United States, interstate transportation of a firearm and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence."
