"As part of her state visit to Barbados, the Acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, held a high-level meeting with the Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley, in Bridgetown on Monday to discuss economic cooperation, energy, and regional trade. The meeting took place at the official residence and was part of the efforts by both countries to strengthen Caribbean integration and expand bilateral relations in strategic sectors. Rodriguez highlighted a proposal for agricultural cooperation involving Barbados in Venezuelan territory to promote joint production and open markets in the Caribbean and Africa. "Barbados can go to Venezuela to produce food on Venezuelan land. <…> This will turn Barbados into a place from which we export food to the Caribbean and Africa," Rodriguez said. Energy cooperation also stood as a central issue, with Caracas proposing to expand agreements to guarantee supply and stability in the Caribbean, including investment projects in the energy sector. "We can guarantee supply and energy security for Barbados in the future," she said. Prime Minister Mia Mottley, in her turn, emphasised the need to move forward quickly with these agreements amid rising prices and supply chain challenges linked to the armed conflict in the Middle East. The visit concluded with both nations committing to explore new connectivity routes to facilitate economic and human exchange in the Caribbean region. This marks Delcy Rodriguez’s first official trip to Barbados as Venezuela's leader following the capture of Nicolas Maduro by US forces on January 3."
