"Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Wednesday in an audio message addressed to the Iranian people that Donald Trump was seeking to force Iran into surrender through economic pressure, internal division, and a naval blockade. “The enemy has implemented many plans since the beginning of the war, which the Iranian nation has thwarted one by one. On the first day, they aimed to bring down the Islamic Republic within three days by targeting the country’s leader and military commanders, but they failed,” he added. Ghalibaf added that Iran’s adversaries had also failed to “Venezuela-ize” the country or activate separatist groups in its western regions. “The enemy has now moved to a new phase, seeking to exert pressure through a naval blockade, media hype, economic pressure, and the stirring of internal divisions, with the aim of weakening Iran or bringing it down from within,” he continued. The speaker criticised Trump for portraying Iran as divided between radicals and moderates while insisting the blockade would remain in place until an agreement is reached. “It is clear that his plan is to force Iran to surrender through economic pressure and internal divisions,” he added. Ghalibaf underlined national unity as the only solution to confront what he described as the “enemy’s conspiracy,” stressing that all state officials remain committed to the directives of the Supreme Leader. On Wednesday, Trump posted on his Truth Social account an image of himself holding a rifle, accompanied by the comment: “Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a non-nuclear deal. They better get smart soon!” A day earlier, Trump wrote on social media that Iran had informed Washington it was in a state of collapse and wanted the Strait of Hormuz reopened quickly while it sorted out its leadership situation. The first round of talks between Iranian and US delegations took place on April 11 but ended without a breakthrough, while a second round has yet to take place. Diplomatic activity has continued in recent days, with Araghchi travelling to Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, while US President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire. The standoff follows a sharp escalation after joint US-Israeli military action against Iran on February 28, which triggered retaliatory strikes and ongoing tensions across the Gulf. Since then, Iran has imposed restrictions on traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, while US naval forces have maintained a blockade on Iranian ports despite the ceasefire."
