'Venezuela can rise' - Jorge Rodriguez claims early economic gains at Caracas rally calling for end to US sanctions

"The president of Venezuela's National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, said signs of economic recovery are beginning to emerge despite US sanctions, during a mobilisation in Caracas on Wednesday. Footage shows thousands of motorcyclists riding in convoy as part of the 'Great Pilgrimage United for a Venezuela Without Sanctions and in Peace,' a nationwide initiative promoted by acting president Delcy Rodriguez. "Only 18 of the 1,861 sanctions that exist have been lifted and it is already noticeable. [...] There is a re-dynamisation, there is an acceleration of Venezuela's economic development," Jorge Rodriguez told the crowd. He renewed his call for the full removal of sanctions and described the pilgrimage events as a space for 'spiritual encounter' and unity. "Venezuelan men and women could merge into a single spirit, a single reason, a single dream," he said. "So that sanctions that have caused so much harm are permanently eliminated, so that Venezuela can fly free, so that Venezuela can rise." Education Minister Hector Rodriguez also addressed the crowd, stressing in his speech that Venezuelans have endured years of hardship due to sanctions and political divisions. "Today, Venezuela faces special circumstances," he said. "After years of blockade, of sanctions, of calls for violence, the vast majority of Venezuelans, beyond our political and ideological differences, agree on the need to walk together." The 'Great Pilgrimage United for a Venezuela Without Sanctions and in Peace' mobilisations, backed by the ruling party and government officials, have included motorcycle caravans and public events across the country. According to protester Elio Amundaray, around '7,000 motorcyclists' took part in the Caracas rally, calling for the lifting of US sanctions and for 'peace' in the country. The national pilgrimage began on April 19 - marking the anniversary of Venezuela's first independence movement - and is set to conclude on May 1 with coordinated demonstrations across the country."
