"Thousands of local residents celebrated International Dance Day in Yerevan on Wednesday. Footage shows participants performing traditional dance moves while holding hands in Republic Square. "We've selected three beautiful dances from the simple category. The first is a ritual wedding dance performed when the bride is led away from her home. The second is our famous 'Kochari' dance, and the third is the folk dance 'Karot'," said director of the Berd Dance Ensemble Karen Gevorgyan. One of the event organisers, Artur Harutyunyan, reported that four thousand people took part in the event. "We participated on behalf of Armenia, presenting ourselves to the world as a united nation that showcases its national identity," he added. The holiday is celebrated annually on April 29. It was established in 1982 by the UNESCO International Dance Council."
