13 militants killed in Mohmand, S Waziristan

ISLAMABAD: Security forces killed 13 militants during two separate attempts to infiltrate the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mohmand and North Waziristan districts on April 28–29, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), eight militants were killed in Mohmand district after troops detected and engaged a group attempting to cross into Pakistan. In a second incident in North Waziristan, five militants were neutralised following an intense exchange of fire during another infiltration attempt. The military described the operations as part of ongoing efforts to secure the western border and prevent cross-border militant movement. It said sanitisation operations were underway in the respective areas to eliminate any remaining threats. The ISPR said the incidents reinforced Pakistan’s longstanding position regarding the need for effective border management on the Afghan side, urging the Afghan authorities to prevent the use of their territory for attacks inside Pakistan. The statement added that security forces remain committed to defending the country’s frontiers and would continue counterterrorism operations under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” framework to curb militant activity. Pakistan has witnessed a rise in cross-border infiltration attempts and militant attacks in its western regions in recent months, prompting intensified security operations in border districts.
