ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday claimed that thousands of kanal of amenity and public utility land have been formally transferred to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in a move to regularise long-pending land disputes. In a statement, NAB said a high-level meeting held last week resolved to expedite the transfer of amenity land within the prescribed legal and regulatory framework. The bureau added that the process, supervised by Director General NAB Islamabad /Rawalpindi Waqar Ahmed Chauhan, was carried out in close coordination with CDA officials and the managements of affected housing societies. It stated that in the first phase, 5,484.76 kanal in Gulberg Residencia and 999 kanal in Margalla View D-17 were formally transferred to CDA. The bureau said a registration ceremony was held at NAB Islamabad/Rawalpindi to mark the occasion, and cases involving additional housing societies have reportedly advanced to the execution stage. According to NAB assessments, the total value of the transferred land is approximately Rs41 billion based on district collector rates, while the public utility component is valued at Rs25.43 billion. NAB said that together, this represents roughly Rs66 billion of land secured for public use. It further stated that an additional 4,500 kanal from other housing societies are scheduled for transfer in the coming weeks. It emphasised that, under statutory requirements, amenity land must undergo formal mutation following registration to ensure legal finality and prevent irregular or unauthorised transactions. The top anti-graft body added that several cases pending for over three decades have now been regularised, including 4,793 kanal across multiple housing societies. It noted that the Civil Employees Housing Society case, unresolved for nearly 31 years, has now been conclusively processed. It said the transferred land was originally designated for parks, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and other essential public services. It added that mutation of more than 2,500 kanal of land is currently under consideration and is being processed for early completion. Expanding the initiative, NAB said that DG NAB Islamabad/Rawalpindi has tasked CDA and the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) with overseeing the transfer of remaining amenity land across Islamabad and Rawalpindi Divisions.
