"Argentine President Javier Milei visited the US Navy's nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz on Thursday as it sailed near Mar del Plata for joint naval drills. The USS Nimitz's entry into Argentine waters was authorised by presidential decree earlier in April. The visit marks one of the most significant joint military engagements between Argentina and the US in decades. Footage released by Argentina's Presidency shows the president arriving at the site with the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei. He was joined by US Ambassador Peter Lamelas and Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno. During the visit, Milei watched flyovers by F/A-18 fighter jets and MH-60 Seahawk helicopters, before being taken on a tour of the carrier and briefed on its operations and logistical capacity. The drills are part of PASSEX 2026, a joint exercise of the Argentine Navy and US forces in the South Atlantic. PASSEX exercises are designed to improve coordination between allied navies at sea, including tactical navigation and simulated defence scenarios. The training is also part of the wider Atlantic Dagger operation, which includes maritime, land and air exercises between Argentina and the United States and is due to run until June 12."
