'Our missions are fraught with danger' - Funeral held in Tyre for three emergency workers killed during rescue mission in southern Lebanon

"The bodies of three Civil Defence personnel were laid to rest in Tyre, southern Lebanon, on Thursday, after they were killed in an alleged Israeli airstrike on Tuesday in the town of Majdal Zoun, according to reports. Footage shows a military funeral ceremony, with residents gathering around the coffins in a solemn atmosphere, some visibly in tears. "Our mission is to save lives and respond quickly to calls for help. Naturally, we make sacrifices, and our missions are fraught with danger," said Brigadier General Imad Khreish, Director General of Civil Defence. "But this will not deter us from fulfilling our duty toward our families and the people in these areas who are subjected to daily shelling and attacks," he added. Ali Ghadbouni, uncle of victim Hassan Ghadbouni, said his nephew had dedicated his life to helping those in need. "We are facing a treacherous and merciless enemy. While they were recovering a martyr from under the rubble, they came under fire again. […] They were all martyred while trying to rescue a victim," said Ghadbouni. The victims were identified as Hussein Ali Sati, Hadi Jihad Daher, and Hussein Ibrahim Ghazbouni. The funeral began at the Regional Civil Defence Centre in Tyre, where the bodies were received with official honours in the presence of Civil Defence personnel, including staff and volunteers. The Israeli army had not commented on the strike at the time of publication, but said in previous statements that its forces in southern Lebanon continue targeting what it described as Hezbollah positions despite the ceasefire. It also warned residents of villages in southern Lebanon, including Mazraat Byout El Saiyad, Majdal Zoun, Zibqin, Yater, Srobbin, and Haddatha, against travelling south or approaching areas near the Litani River, Wadi al-Salihani, and al-Salouki, where movement restrictions remain in place. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously said he ordered the military to intensify airstrikes on Lebanon after Tel Aviv announced that Hezbollah had violated the ceasefire agreement. On April 15, US President Donald Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, which he later extended for three weeks on April 23, following direct talks hosted by Washington between Lebanese and Israeli officials. Israel has indicated its intention to establish a 'security zone' inside Lebanese territory stretching from the border to the Litani River, covering around 10 percent of Lebanon’s territory."
