"President of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella, on Friday criticised Emmanuel Macron's economic policies, accusing his government of driving industrial decline, weakening workers, and increasing France’s economic dependence. Speaking in Macon during a May Day address, Bardella said that factories were shutting down, jobs were disappearing, and entire regions had been left behind due to what he described as years of political 'negligence'. "Mr Macron and his prime ministers disarmed France," he said. "They burdened it with standards, constraints, and taxes." Bardella also criticised Macron over the EU-Mercosur deal, which came into effect provisionally on May 1, adding that it would expose French farmers to unfair competition and further weaken the agricultural sector. "Our farmers, we have burdened them with regulations. Instead of supporting them, we have exposed them to unsustainable, unfair competition," he said. "After ten years of Macronism, our farmers are on their knees. Farms are disappearing every month, and an entire profession is living in precarious conditions," he added. With National Rally leader Marine Le Pen expressing hope to run for president for a fourth time next year, Bardella called for a political shift, urging voters to reject politicians associated with current policies. He called for a 'new French renaissance,' with a 'break' from the existing political setup. "Attal, Philippe, Retailleau [...] how can they have the gall to stand before the French people and explain to us that they will do the opposite of what they did yesterday?" he questioned. "You should instead cover your heads with ashes and ask the people for forgiveness. You should ask them for forgiveness for having brought to its knees the greatest nation in the world," he added. The comments were made during a massive 'Fete de la Nation' rally in Macon, marking a pivotal shift from its victory in municipal elections to the 2027 Elysee Palace race."
