A 29-week pregnant woman in Cheongju was forced to wait more than three hours to find a hospital for emergency delivery before being airlifted to Busan, where her fetus ultimately died. According to fire authorities on May 2, a 119 emergency call was received at 11:03 p.m. the previous day from an obstetrics clinic in Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, reporting that the fetus of a woman in her 30s was experiencing a drop in heart rate. The clinic requested an urgent transfer to a higher-level hospital. The woman had already been admitted to the clinic at the time. The facility reportedly contacted six hospitals across the Chungcheong region, including North Chungcheong, South Chungcheong, Daejeon and Sejong, but was told that transfer was not possible due to reasons such as a lack of available specialists. As delays mounted, fire authorities broadened their search nationwide and eventually secured acceptance from Dong-A University Hospital.
