DARAGA, ALBAY — Heavy ashfall blanketed several towns in Albay’s third district on Saturday following a strombolian eruption and continuous pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) from Mayon Volcano, local officials said. At least 17 barangays in Guinobatan town were severely affected, with some areas experiencing near-zero visibility, Mayor Gemma Ann Ongjoco told the Inquirer. “The ashfall is heavy. Visibility is almost zero,” Ongjoco said, adding that face masks were distributed and residents were advised to stay indoors.
