DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan – The rich aroma of roasted pigs drifted through a vacant lot along Old De Venecia Highway on Saturday morning as Lasip Chico village here staged its “Lechonan ed Barangay,” a celebration of an industry the community has nurtured for decades. Rows of pigs slowly turned over glowing charcoal pits from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, as lechoneros carefully tended the fire.
