"The Philippines' most active volcano, Mount Mayon, erupted on Saturday evening after part of its lava dome collapsed, sending hot gas, ash and volcanic debris rushing down its slopes. Footage shows thick grey ash clouds drifting west-southwest and covering the skyline of nearby towns. According to authorities, the volcano erupted around 04:28 pm local time, generating a Pyroclastic Density Current (PDC), locally known as 'uson', with a run-out of over four kilometres down the Mi-isi Gully on the south-southwestern slopes. "Lava flow collapse-fed pyroclastic density current at the southwestern slopes of Mayon Volcano at 05:41 pm," PHIVOLCS, a service institute for monitoring and mitigation of volcanic eruptions, said. "Alert Level 3 remains in effect over Mayon Volcano. Entry into the 6-km Permanent Danger Zone should be prohibited." The eruption sharply reduced visibility in Camalig, Guinobatan and Daraga. Traffic on the Camalig Bypass Road briefly came to a halt as drivers pulled over because of the heavy haze, while authorities placed residents on high alert."
