Easterlies to prevail; Ilocos, Pangasinan, La Union to sizzle at 43 degrees Celsius

MANILA, Philippines —The warm and humid weather brought by the easterlies will continue to affect most parts of the country in the next three to four days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on Sunday. A heat index of 42 degrees Celsius in the Capital National Region is likely on Sunday. The highest temperature could be recorded in Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan and La Union at 43 degrees Celsius, weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said. Aurelio said the same weather system will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Sorsogon, Masbate, Palawan, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Basilan. “Flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains could be possible in these areas,” he warned in a 5 a.m. briefing. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the effects of the easterly winds.
