'Historic work' - Sheinbaum inaugurates second longest vehicular bridge in Latin America in Cancun investing nearly 700 thousand dollars

"The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, inaugurated the Nichupte Vehicular Bridge in Cancún this Saturday, a project that crosses the lagoon of the same name over 8.8 kilometers and reaches a total length of 11.2 kilometers. The infrastructure is positioned as the second longest of its kind in Latin America, only behind the Rio–Niterói bridge in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which has a length of 13.3 kilometers. Recorded images show the bridge filled with dozens of attendees, including runners and cyclists. The bridge has three lanes, as well as a bidirectional bike path and navigation passage. During the event, Ana Paty Peralta, president of the municipality of Benito Juárez, headquartered in the city of Cancún, noted that the bridge will facilitate travel to tourist areas, bringing advantages for locals and tourists. "This will reduce the travel time of thousands of workers. That is the goal of this bridge. Besides being spectacular, everyone who crosses this bridge every day in the morning, in the afternoon, returning from work, well, it will become part of their daily life," she indicated. "Having a project like this is undoubtedly a historic event and a dream come true for thousands of Cancún residents," she added. The bridge uses cutting-edge machinery for the first time to protect the lagoon and avoid the removal of mangroves, known as 'top down' for the first time in Mexico and Latin America, according to authorities. Additionally, it has an investment of 12 billion pesos (approximately 687 thousand dollars), according to estimates."
