"Hundreds of protesters rallied in Habima Square in Tel Aviv on Saturday evening against the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, demanding an end to the military campaign in the region. Footage shows demonstrators from several anti-government groups waving Israeli flags and chanting slogans against the prime minister. Some expressed support for Gaza, while others held signs such as 'Palestinian lives matter'. According to local reports, the protest was organised by the Movement for Quality Government, which has submitted a petition against the government draft to exempt ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) men from mandatory military service and is demanding a state commission of inquiry into the Hamas-led October 7 attacks. One demonstrator, from the campaign group 'Looking the Occupation in the Eyes', condemned the actions of illegal settlers and demanded that the government withdraw troops from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. "Whatever is happening here today is a result of years and years of occupation, which under this awful government is deteriorating seriously, and the situation in the West Bank is just unbearable, unthinkable," she said. "Settlers are practising actions that are similar to the worst that you can think of. […] The only problem is this government. It's not. The whole system is now built around this policy. The police, the army, they are just structured so that they defend those criminal citizens or settlers," she added. The demonstration is part of a wider wave of anti-government protests across the country, driven by long-standing frustrations with Benjamin Netanyahu's leadership, government policies, and renewed calls for elections. The protest comes as the Israeli military continues its operations in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon despite a US-backed ceasefire. The government is also facing pressure to establish a State Commission of Inquiry into the October 7, 2023, attacks."
