Race with heart! - Hundreds join Zayed Charity Run in Addis Ababa to support global humanitarian causes

"Hundreds of participants took part in the Zayed Charity Run in Addis Ababa on Sunday, one of the UAE's flagship humanitarian sporting initiatives. Footage shows runners gathering at the venue with spectators enjoying traditional performances by a UAE band, with music and dance adding a festive atmosphere before the race. Officials from the UAE embassy, Ethiopian authorities and sports figures later flagged off the event, which included a UAE delegation of around 50 runners competing alongside international participants for prizes totalling AED150,000. "We are happy to be part of the Zayed Charity Run […] It goes around the world to help hospitals and poor people," said UAE participant Yasir Ahmed. "We came here to support people - those in need, patients with kidney or heart disease." "It was a very good event… the atmosphere, the weather, everything was perfect," he added. At the finish line, winners in both men's and women's categories were awarded by UAE and Ethiopian delegates. "I am very happy to participate in the kindness race. It was a tough race with many strong runners," said winner Nibret Kinde Trophi. "I urge that such a race continue; it was a nice competition." The Zayed Charity Run was launched in honour of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and has grown into a global platform combining sport with humanitarian work. Since its inception, the initiative has brought together more than 700,000 participants worldwide and raised over $173 million to support healthcare and charitable causes. Organisers say the event goes beyond competition, promoting values of solidarity, volunteerism and international cooperation, while supporting communities in need across the globe."
