"An ‘Immortal Regiment’ procession was held in Frankfurt on Sunday as part of an annual tradition commemorating Soviet soldiers who died during World War II. Footage shows the procession marching through the city, which brought together participants carrying portraits of relatives, Soviet flags and commemorative banners. "I am here today because memory is eternal, because people died and stood against fascism. And for us, this is very important, especially here in Germany, because Germany is trying to rewrite history; they are trying to forget all of this," said a participant. "As long as we are here, we will not forget. We will remind them every year of the same thing - of the victims of this terrible war, of the people who gave their lives in the name of humanity," she added. An attendee underscored the importance of honouring those who lost their lives and ensuring their memory is carried forward to younger generations. "It is truly important to be here on this day, at this time, to show that we remember our relatives - those who made their contribution to victory, to the liberation of Europe from fascism," said a participant. "We bring all our children because we want this memory of our grandfathers, of what they went through, and why we are alive at all to remain with our children as well,” added another. The Immortal Regiment is an annual remembrance event held in multiple countries in May, during which participants carry portraits of relatives who served in World War II. The tradition originated in Russia and has since expanded internationally as part of Victory Day commemorations marking the defeat of Nazi Germany."
