AI AND MEDIA OP-ED: When AI breaks the news: Trust cannot be automated

This May, UNESCO World Press Freedom Day and RightsCon were supposed to come together in Zambia against a backdrop of deep anxiety about the future of journalism and about whether anything resembling a shared digital public space can survive the next decade. Puzzlingly – or perhaps tellingly – the 5,000-people conference about human rights and freedom of expression was cancelled at the last moment.
