"Thousands, including students, members of the business community, civil society groups and government officials, took part in a mass public health campaign against rising drug abuse in Srinagar on Sunday. The march was started using a flag held aloft by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha from the TRC Ground and proceeded along a key city route before culminating at Lal Chowk, the city square. Footage shows participants carrying placards warning against the dangers of drug abuse, reflecting what officials described as a growing people’s movement against the menace. “We should recognise that we are part of this effort - we are like soldiers, and we must act as netizens against the drug menace. So yes, everybody has a responsibility," said Dr Farah Shafi, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Ganderbal. "Schools, people associated with businesses, including civil society groups, have all supported this, because the poison of drugs is hollowing out the minds and thinking of our youth," said a state minister, Syed Darakshan Andrabi. The rally also featured public outreach activities, including awareness drives and a pledge campaign, while students from the Fine Arts department created live paintings on-site depicting the impact of drug abuse."
