FAISALABAD: Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, visited Government College University Faisalabad and participated in a meeting of the Academic Council. He was warmly received by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam. During the visit, the HEC chairman was briefed on the university’s academic performance, ongoing research initiatives, and future development plans. Addressing the Academic Council, Prof. Akhtar engaged with faculty members and discussed key issues related to the future of higher education, research advancement, and academic reforms. He said that Pakistani youth possess immense potential and are proving their capabilities in leading universities across the world. He emphasized the need to increase funding for higher education and called for comprehensive reforms to enable Pakistan to compete globally through academic excellence. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam highlighted the university’s development projects, academic progress, and research achievements. He noted that GCUF is ranked among the 601–800 top universities globally, securing the first position in Punjab and second in Pakistan. He further shared that 54 researchers from the university are included among the world’s top two percent scientists. The vice chancellor added that the university is actively promoting quality education, cutting-edge research, and stronger academia-industry linkages. He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to further strengthening its global standing and equipping students to meet international standards. At the conclusion of the meeting, the HEC chairman appreciated the university’s efforts in education and research and assured full support for its future initiatives.
