"Manchester United Head Coach Michael Carrick shared his concern after his side secured victory over rival Liverpool FC in a Premier League clash overshadowed by reports that former United manager Alex Ferguson had been rushed from Old Trafford to hospital. The news emerged ahead of kick-off, with Carrick saying the situation had affected him and that the team was hoping for positive updates. “I haven't gotten any updates, so I don't know the latest as we stand now. I did hear about it before the game, so I was aware of it before the game,” he said. “All I can say is I wish him well, and I was very kind of affected by it, you know, the news, and we just hope he's all right… we wish him all the best and are certainly thinking of him, and hopefully the result, when he hears about it, you know, gives him a good boost.” Carrick also reflected on the team’s recent performances and commented on whether he expects to stay on as head coach beyond the end of the season, when his short-term deal with the club expires. “It’s been a good run, I think. You know, we've obviously beaten some very, very good teams… I love doing what I'm doing… to be in this position is a good position to be in.” Liverpool head coach Arne Slot shared his thoughts, noting that his side fell short despite improving after the break, pointing to costly moments early in the game. “So the first one we conceded from a set-piece, and the second one… a great counter-attack led to the 2–0.” Reflecting on the second half, he noted that Liverpool came back into the game. “Great finish by Dominik… And then you have momentum on your side, and that’s what we had in the second half, I think,” he noted. Manchester United secured a 3–2 victory when Kobe Mainoo struck late, securing qualification for next season's Champions League with three games to spare, after two years out of the European top flight. The three points United strengthened their grip on third place, while Liverpool are now six points adrift in fourth, although fifth-placed Aston Villa find themselves in freefall after losing at home to Spurs in their third defeat on the bounce."
