Two reported killed, multiple injured as car ploughs into crowd in Leipzig

"Two people were reported killed and several others were injured when a car drove into a crowd in Leipzig on Monday. Footage shows police cars and officers at the scene, which was cordoned off. The video also shows press representatives gathering at the site. The driver entered a popular shopping area in the city centre, with a university and St Nicholas Church nearby. Several collisions were reported before the vehicle came to a halt. Police then arrested the driver, a 33-year-old German national. The car had a local licence plate and was travelling at 70 to 80 km/h (43 to 49 mph) according to media reports citing witnesses. The area was full of shoppers and cafe-goers at the time. Police said the incident was treated as a 'suspected rampage' and added that the situation was under control at the time of publication. An investigation into the incident has been launched."
