LAHORE: The National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC) has successfully completed nine major power transmission projects over the last six months. A spokesperson for NGC said on Monday that key achievements since November 2025 included the completion of two new grid stations, 500 kV Lahore North and 220 kV Quaid-e-Azam Business Park, which have significantly enhanced power transmission capacity from southern to northern regions of the country, while also enabling electricity supply to a Special Economic Zone in Punjab. During this period, the upgradation of six autotransformers, ranging from 160 MVA to 250 MVA, at Nokhar, Okara, Yousafwala and Hyderabad grid stations has also been completed. These upgrades have substantially increased system capacity and reduced load shedding. Additionally, the interconnection of Ghazi Barotha–Gatti transmission line with 500 kV Allama Iqbal Industrial City (AIIC) grid station in Faisalabad has been completed. Other significant projects include the completion of Nowshera Transmission Line and 55-kilometer-long 220 kV Faisalabad West–Lalian transmission line, both of which are now ready for energisation. Meanwhile, several grid station and transmission line projects across the country are in their final stages of completion. After assuming office in November 2025, Managing Director NGC Engr Altaf Hussain Malik, made the timely completion of transmission projects his top priority. He conducted extensive visits across Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where he directly engaged with field teams and reviewed the progress of ongoing projects in detail, the spokesperson added. The DG appreciated the efforts of NGC teams on the successful completion of these projects, commending their hard work, effective coordination and strict adherence to safety standards.
