Eleven villagers were killed Sunday by gunmen in Kankia, in Nigeria's northwestern Katsina State, reported Xinhua, quoting police. A manhunt for the attackers is ongoing, Katsina state police spokesman Aliyu Abubakar Sadiq told Xinhua over the phone. Early on Saturday, local security operatives had thwarted an armed attack on the communities, but the criminals regrouped on Sunday, the spokesman said. In a separate statement, Nasir Mu'azu, the commissioner for internal security and home affairs in Katsina, said several bandits were killed, with eight motorcycles and rustled cattle recovered during the operation that thwarted the earlier attack.
