3 killed in New York building fire

Three people were killed and 14 others injured after a fire tore through a six-story apartment building in Upper Manhattan early Monday, Fire Department officials said, reported Xinhua. The department said it received a report of a fire on the building's second floor at 0:35 a.m. local time (0435 GMT), and the fire was not brought under control until 3:00 a.m. (0700 GMT). It added that three people were pronounced dead at the scene and nine others were taken to hospitals. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the officials said, adding that over 100 people have been displaced by the fire. A total of 36 people have died in fires in New York City this year, including the deaths on Monday, according to authorities.
