3 Palestinians killed in Israeli fire in Gaza amid threats of renewed operations

Three Palestinians were killed on Monday by Israeli fire in incidents in the Gaza Strip, amid reports that Israel military officials were pushing for renewed operations, reported Xinhua. Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense in Gaza, told Xinhua that one person was killed when an Israeli drone fired a missile at a group of Palestinians in southern Gaza City. In a separate incident, a young man was killed and several others were wounded in an Israeli airstrike targeting the Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip. A third Palestinian was killed by Israeli gunfire in the Atatra area in the northern Gaza Strip, according to Basal. The Israeli army has not commented on these developments, which come amid threats of renewed fighting in the Gaza Strip. Israel's state-owned Kan TV News reported on Sunday that Israeli military officials are pushing for a resumption of hostilities in Gaza, believing the best time to "defeat Hamas is now." In response, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said that the Israeli threats to resume fighting in Gaza constitute "a violation of the ceasefire agreement and reflect an intention to escalate the aggression." Qassem told Xinhua that the threats "do not align with the positive spirit with which the movement and Palestinian factions have approached the proposal of U.S. President Donald Trump and the mediators." Earlier Monday, Israeli Army Radio reported that Nickolay Mladenov, the U.S.-led Board of Peace's High Representative for Gaza, arrived in Israel to meet with security officials. The radio said that Mladenov will ask Israel to "allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and will also demand a reduction in the intensity of Israeli fighting in the Strip." No comment has been issued by Mladenov or the Israeli side regarding these meetings. Gaza is experiencing ongoing tension despite the fragile ceasefire, with Israeli airstrikes continuing to kill and wound Palestinians intermittently. The implementation of the agreement's terms remains stalled, and disagreements persist regarding the mechanisms for delivering humanitarian aid and the military withdrawal. Gaza's health authorities reported Monday that the bodies of two Palestinians killed and nine wounded arrived at hospitals in Gaza in the past 24 hours. The authorities said that the death toll since the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas came into effect on Oct. 10, 2025, has risen to 832, in addition to 2,354 wounded. Meanwhile, the total number of Palestinians killed in the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, has reached 72,612, with 172,457 wounded.
