"An explosion at a coal mine in Colombia's central Cundinamarca region on Monday left 12 miners trapped. According to Alvaro Farfan, representative of the local Fire Department, the incident was likely caused by a buildup of gases. "At the moment, it is reported that 15 miners were working at the site, three of whom exited on their own, one of them was sent to medical centers due to the magnitude of the incident, and it is reported that apparently 12 miners are trapped," Farfan stated. He also mentioned that, after the incident, emergency response teams from the National Mining Agency, as well as mining rescuers and firefighters, were deployed, adding that hospitals in the area remained on alert. The incident took place at the P3 Carbonera Los Pinos mine in the Penas de Boqueron sector of the Sutatausa municipality, where miners were reportedly working at a depth of approximately 600 meters. According to Jorge Emilio Rey Angel, the governor of Cundinamarca, three ambulances were dispatched to the scene, one medical and two basic. In addition, response teams are reviewing the continuous gas monitoring system to ensure it is safe for miners to enter the mine."
