Double vision – Streets of China’s ‘Twin Town’ flooded as thousands of sibling pairs join unique global festival

"A sea of matching faces filled the streets of Sun Plaza in China's Pu'er City, as thousands of twins from around the world took part in a colourful parade. Footage shows pairs of twins marching, dancing and waving from decorated floats, as well as humanoid robots that also joined the celebration. Visitors described the scene as unlike anything they had seen before. “My impression is that Mojiang is a really lively place, with a distinct ethnic atmosphere,” said Liu. “It feels really unique—the streets are full of twins. I’ve never seen anything like it before,” the visitor added. Another attendee, Luo, said the scale of participation made the event stand out even among China’s many holiday celebrations. “It felt so lively—everyone was riding on those floats… there were all kinds of performers putting on shows for us. I think this festival is really great,” she said. “What surprised me the most was that there were so many twins—both Chinese and foreigners… seeing so many twins coming together to have fun at the same time was amazing,” she added. The festival has become one of the region’s most recognisable cultural attractions, drawing visitors from across China and abroad, and reinforcing Mojiang’s informal identity as “Twin Town.” The Mojiang Twins Festival takes place annually in Pu'er City, running from May 1 to May 5."
