'El Alex' falls - Alleged financial operator of the Sinaloa Cartel captured in Bogotá, will be extradited to the US

"The National Police of Colombia, in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), captured Mexican citizen Jorge Espinoza Peña, alias 'El Alex', at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, identifying him as a financial and logistical link for the Sinaloa Cartel. The detainee was notified at the airport terminal of charges for conspiracy to commit a crime and trafficking of illicit drugs, especially fentanyl. He was then transferred to high-security cells of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Interpol (DIJIN). According to the deputy director of the department, Ferney Martín Romero, the capture was carried out for extradition purposes, as the Mexican is wanted by a court in the Eastern District of New York. He reported that Espinoza Peña entered Colombia to evade the strong controls deployed in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, as well as to strengthen ties with local criminal structures dedicated to trafficking synthetic substances. "With this result, the National Police reaffirms its commitment to the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking, strengthening alliances with international agencies to combat the networks that endanger the security of the hemisphere," he added. Although it was confirmed that 'El Axel' will be extradited to the United States, the authorities did not specify the date on which the handover will take place."
