MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the release of P43.18 billion to fund financial aid, food assistance, pensions and livelihood programs for vulnerable Filipinos, Malacañang said Tuesday. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the funds, released by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and coursed through the Department of Social Welfare and Development, aimed to ensure the uninterrupted and immediate delivery of social protection services amid economic pressures Of the total amount, Castro said that more than P36.8 billion has been allocated to the Protective Services for Individuals and Families in Difficult Circumstances program, which provides immediate assistance to individuals and families in crisis. She said that over P3.4 billion has been earmarked for the Supplementary Feeding Program, which supports the nutritional needs of children enrolled in child development centers and supervised neighborhood playgroups. The Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens would receive more than P2 billion to ensure the continued monthly pension of elderly beneficiaries, Castro said. An additional P810 million has been allocated to the Sustainable Livelihood Program to support vulnerable and marginalized sectors in establishing long-term sources of income, she added.
