Albay declares state of calamity in areas affected by Mayon ashfall

LEGAZPI CITY — The provincial government of Albay has placed several areas under a state of calamity as unrest at Mayon Volcano continues to affect nearby communities. A resolution approved by the provincial board on Tuesday covers the cities of Tabaco, Legazpi, and Ligao, as well as the towns of Camalig, Malilipot, Sto. Domingo, Daraga, and Guinobatan. Board Member Milagros Bal said the declaration is intended to expedite relief and rehabilitation efforts as volcanic hazards persist in communities surrounding the volcano.
