MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives approved on third and final reading House Bill 8647 which aimed to expand the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). "We are happy that as an author back then at the Senate of Republic Act No. 11310 which institutionalized the 4Ps, we were now able to pass at the House the strengthening and further expansion of this program which has already helped million of our countrymen", Mamamayang Liberal Rep. Leila de Lima said in Filipino and English in a statement. "It is clear: With support for the education of our children and also the development of the skills of our parents, they are given enough ability to improve the quality of their lives even if they have already graduated from the program. We are confident that in strengthening and further expanding the program, our 4Ps beneficiaries will have more success stories ...", de Lima said. A statement said the bill sought to expand the law's policy goals by adding "socio-economic resilience, adult education through the Alternative Learning System, entrepreneurship training, livelihood support and a transition program for graduating beneficiaries." House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Alexander Marcos said in the statement that under Speaker Faustino Dy III, "the House is making sure support reaches families in a way that is practical, humane and built for the long term".
