MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area (LPA) has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the state-run weather agency said on Tuesday. Weather specialist Benison Estareja of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a briefing that the LPA was estimated to be some 910 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao. He said there would no immediate threat from the latest weather disturbance but it was forecast to bring rains especially its trough or extension in areas over the Visayas, Caraga and Davao Region by Wednesday night. By Thursday until Saturday, the LPA would likely cross Mindanao areas and southern Palawan where it would eventually dissipate, according to the Pagasa forecaster. Meanwhile, the other LPA, which remains outside PAR, has also intensified into a tropical depression while moving north-northwestward slowly, the national weather bureau said. “This was forecast to enter PAR either on Saturday or Sunday and once inside, it would be called ‘Caloy,’ the third storm to hit the country this year,” Estareja said. He said Pagasa would be closely monitoring the movements of the two weather disturbances.
