'We're in continuous contact with friends in United States' - Netanyahu says 'no surprises' as reports suggest Washington, Tehran inching closer to agreement

"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday he is in 'continuous contact' with US President Donald Trump and that there were 'no surprises' after reports that Washington and Tehran are moving closer to ending a war through a one-page memorandum. “We maintain continuous contact with our friends in the United States. I speak with President Trump on an almost daily basis," Netanyahu said in a video statement released from security cabinet meetings. He added that he would be speaking with Trump later in the evening, refuting speculation that Israel had been taken by surprise. "There is full coordination between us. There are no surprises," he reiterated. He said that the main goal of the war was to dismantle Iran's nuclear capabilities, and that Trump believes he can achieve that 'one way or another.' On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that 'Operation Epic Fury', which began on February 28 against Iran, was over. Hours later, Trump announced that the 'Project Freedom' operation, which he said was to ensure the safe passage of vessels and seafarers trapped due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, had been halted for a 'short period.' He added that 'great progress' had been made towards an agreement with Iran. At the time of publication, media reports citing White House sources suggest that both sides are moving closer to a one-page memorandum of understanding to end the war, setting a framework for more detailed nuclear negotiations. Tehran said it was still reviewing Washington’s latest proposal for a potential agreement to end the war, with no official response yet delivered."
