Cruise control - Dusseldorf hospital to assess person that came into contact with hantavirus patient as precaution

"A person that reportedly came into contact with an individual infected with hantavirus on the MV Hondius cruise ship is to be assessed at the University Hospital Dusseldorf in Germany. Footage captured on Wednesday shows ambulances arriving at and departing from the hospital. The transfer followed the identification of a contact person from an expedition vessel for further evaluation. Medical teams carried out checks to assess any potential exposure to hantavirus and to rule out infection. Health authorities in Europe have said hantavirus cases remain rare, with isolation and monitoring used as standard precautionary measures when suspected contact occurs. The MV Hondius has been at the centre of an international health alert after a hantavirus outbreak was reported on board. Three passengers, a Dutch couple and a German national, have died among around 150 people from 23 countries on the vessel. It is primarily transmitted through contact with infected rodent droppings, while rare cases of human-to-human transmission are still under investigation by the World Health Organisation. In severe cases, the virus can lead to respiratory failure or haemorrhagic fever, according to health officials."
