"In anticipation of the 81st anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, archival footage revisits last year's celebrations on May 9 in Russia, featuring the military parade on Red Square, meetings with foreign leaders, and commemorative events across the country. Footage shows military hardware rolling across Red Square as combat aircraft soar overhead, trailing the colours of the Russian flag across the Moscow sky. It also shows Russian President Vladimir Putin meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico during the commemorative events. The video also highlights festive processions in Khabarovsk, Yekaterinburg, Samara and Volgograd, where servicemen marched through city streets as part of nationwide Victory Day celebrations. Alongside Russian troops, parade contingents from 13 countries - including China, Vietnam, Laos, Egypt, Mongolia, Belarus, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan - took part in the march across Red Square during the 2025 parade. Despite repeated calls from Kiev and its Western allies to boycott the Moscow events, 29 leaders from the CIS, Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia attended commemorations marking the end of the Second World War. Among them were Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. This year marks the 81st anniversary of Victory Day, the moment in 1945 Nazi Germany surrendered to allied forces in WW2. It is traditionally observed in Russia, the CIS and other countries on May 9, with similar commemorations held around the world. In Moscow, the annual parade takes place in the iconic Red Square. The Kremlin confirmed the parade will take place this year without military hardware due to an increasing 'terrorist threat' from Ukraine. Instead, there will be video footage of Russian troops from the frontline during the live broadcast. President Vladimir Putin declared a ceasefire on May 8-9, while the Russian Defence Ministry warned of a 'massive retaliatory strike' on Kiev if Ukraine tried to disrupt the commemorations."
