The Ministry of Energy (Power Division) has directed electricity distribution companies to clearly mention the amount of subsidy provided to eligible consumers in their monthly power bills. In a statement released on Thursday, electricity distribution companies have taken a key step to facilitate consumers with government subsidies. “The monthly bills of those consumers who are being subsidised by the government will clearly state how much subsidy they have been provided in that month,” said the spokesperson. According to the Ministry of Energy, this step has been taken so that these subsidies reach the deserving consumers. The ministry shared that a QR code is being printed on the electricity bill, which the consumers will have to scan and register. “This registration is only to ensure relief for the poor and low-electricity consumers. “It should be noted that this does not mean eliminating subsidies in any way,” it added. The ministry noted that providing relief to the poor and middle class remains the government’s top priority, and the aim of this process is only to ensure proper and fair use of resources. Around Rs1.7/unit relief in Discos’ Q1 tariffs likely “The public is requested to register on the QR code provided as soon as possible for the continuation of the subsidy.” In case of an error or other problem on the bill, the consumers can contact the helpline number of their respective electricity company, it added. “The government is committed to the convenience and transparency of the public and will continue to fulfil the rights of the poor despite any political or economic pressure.”
