"Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned against foreign interference in Beijing's ties with Dhaka as he met Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman in Beijing on Wednesday. The ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade, infrastructure, the digital economy and other key sectors. "China's relations with Bangladesh and other South Asian countries do not target any third party, nor should they be influenced by any third party," Wang stated as cited by the Chinese Foreign Ministry. "China is ready to strengthen communication and cooperation with Bangladesh within multilateral institutions and regional cooperation frameworks," he added. Bangladesh's foreign minister backed closer cooperation with Beijing, describing China as a "trustworthy and indispensable friend and partner." The comments come as Washington seeks to strengthen ties with Dhaka amid concerns over China's growing economic and military influence in South Asia. As part of that push, the US has offered Bangladesh advanced defence systems, including NASAMS, MQ-9 Reaper drones and Apache helicopters, to help replace Chinese-made hardware. Rahman arrived in China on Monday for a three-day visit at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. It is his first trip to the country since taking office in February."
