"An astonishing new video which emerged from onboard the rat-virus-infected 'plague ship' shows the captain telling passengers that a man who had passed away had died from 'natural causes' and was 'not infectious'. Filmed on April 12, it came before hantavirus, a rare but serious disease believed to be spread among rats, was identifed. Oceanwide Expeditions said "at the time of the first death on 11 April, the cause of death was unknown and there was no evidence of a virus or contagion on board MV Hondius." Three people have died in total; a Dutch couple and a German national. The MV Hondius, carrying nearly 150 people, is now en route to the Canaries after being denied docking in Cape Verde - despite an ongoing row between the president of the Spanish islands and the Spanish government in Madrid. The Canaries' leader is believed to be against the docking as well. On Wednesday, three people were airlifted from the ship to hospital in the Netherlands. Argentine officials said the working theory was that the Dutch couple caught the virus while birdwatching, and had visited a landfill site. Authorities are now racing to trace those many people who reportedly left the ship at earlier stops. At time of publication, one Briton was in hospital in South Africa, with two more self isolating in the UK. In Switzerland, authorities said they had identified another case. Around 40 people are said to have left the ship in St Helena."
