"The Burj Khalifa was transformed into a towering tribute on Wednesday, glowing in the colours of the UAE flag and depicting military scenes to mark the 50th anniversary of the Armed Forces' unification. Footage shows images of UAE Armed Forces personnel and military vehicles projected onto the tower’s facade in celebration of the national occasion. On Tuesday, marking the anniversary, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said that "our advanced defence industries, built on strategic planning, have represented one of the most important pillars of strength and effectiveness for our Armed Forces," emphasising that "building our defence capabilities will remain a key strategic goal within the UAE’s comprehensive and sustainable development vision." May 6 marks the anniversary of the unification of the UAE Armed Forces in 1976, a pivotal milestone in the country’s state-building process following the formation of the union in 1971. The UAE commemorates the occasion each year to reaffirm the Armed Forces' role in protecting the nation and strengthening its security and stability. It is especially poignant this year after escalations between the US, Israel and Iran brought the regional conflict to the UAE’s doorstep, including the recent interceptions of missiles and drones over national territory."
