A special envoy for President Lee Jae Myung has met Costa Rican President-elect Laura Fernandez and discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in infrastructure and other fields, the foreign ministry said Friday. Former lawmaker Yang Kyung-sook delivered Lee's congratulatory message and a personal letter to Fernandez on Thursday (local time) during his visit, according to the ministry. In the letter, Lee expressed his commitment to further developing the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, which have continued for more than 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1962. Yang also requested Costa Rica's support for Korean companies to actively participate in infrastructure projects in the Latin American country, while also calling for support for peace on the Korean Peninsula. In response, Fernandez highly valued Korea's contributions to Costa Rica's economic and social development and expressed hope for further strengthening cooperation in such key sectors as digital technology and transportation, according to the ministry.
